Our Vision
Joanne Bowskill and Holly Boal, together with their Get Kids Cooking team, have taught over 130,000 Aussie kids how to cook and appreciate healthy and nutritious homemade food.
Their vision is to empower primary school students with the cooking skills and healthy food literacy to make nutritious food choices, and grow up and feed themselves. This would help the wider community realise savings to public health, as well as the improved quality of life, as these children grow up and become adults.
Schools are a sensible and popular setting to implement programs that equip students with cooking skills because they offer continuous, intensive contact with children during their formative years. Educating students about cooking is at the cornerstone of good health and gives them a motivating way to take ownership of their food choices.
Get Kids Cooking is working towards building capability through nutritious cooking education programs that will develop collective capacity for the school community to create a healthy future for the students.
The Kitchen KartTM
With their practical experience and research, Joanne and Holly had a goal to design and develop an affordable, commercial grade, portable teaching kitchen specifically for the school environment. As a result, The Kitchen Kart™ was created as infrastructure to give students practical experience of this important life skill in a safe environment.
The unique and innovative design of The Kitchen Kart is patent protected internationally and has been adapted for the commercial market.
Events
The Get Kids Cooking team have delivered hands on cooking classes at events, shopping centres, corporate events and festivals all over Australia. They have been commissioned to provide fun, engaging and entertaining cooking classes and demonstrations for a wide variety of clients including the Sydney Royal Easter Show, Brisbane EKKA, Royal Melbourne Show, The Newport – Summer of Fun (Merrivale), Kidtopia, holiday camps and various shopping centres including Westfield.
The Shark Tank Australia
Highlights in 2016 include Get Kids Cooking being on the hit Network Ten TV show, Shark Tank Australia as one of ‘the best of the best’ pitches. We continue to work in partnership with Dr. Glen Richards, our “Shark” from The Shark Tank Australia, in many rewarding ways. This has led to the establishment of our “Cooking Up A Healthy Future Initiative” which provides selected schools with access to The Kitchen Kart ™ and Cook In A Box education kits to teach their students age-appropriate cooking skills in hands-on lessons.
We’ve been included in local and national newspapers, interviewed on radio, featured on TV and even had an ex-Prime Minister put on a Get Kids Cooking apron to encourage more schools to Get Kids Cooking @ school.
